TUNING...
Nelson Performance Tune Information
Is a dyno tune better than a street tune?
Some of our fastest cars have never been put on the dyno. The dyno is an excellent tool for determining horsepower and torque, however, not all driving scenarios can be duplicated on the dyno. If you would like a dyno tune, we’d be more than happy to tune your vehicle on the dyno and print out some HP numbers for you, however dyno tuning is $75 per hour in addition to the regular price of the tune. Once the dyno tune is complete, a street tune is included at no additional cost to ensure idle and drivability are perfect.
What can you expect from a high performance tune?
All PCM’s are tuned for your specific modifications and driving style. You can expect:
- Increased horsepower
- Increased torque
- Better throttle response
|
- Increased gas mileage
- Firmer & higher shift points
- Overall better drivability
|
You will receive Free updates/retunes as long as you own the vehicle!
What does a high performance tune include?
The process includes tuning the vehicle under real world driving conditions. This allows us to adjust the computer’s calibration during various driving scenarios from normal driving to wide open throttle. In order to optimize the computer, the vehicle must be put through every type of driving condition, something a dyno can not duplicate.
Your tune will consist of the following changes depending on modifications to your vehicle and your driving style. NP will:
Optimize the air/fuel ratio, naturally aspirated engines are set at 12.8 a/f at wide open throttle. Forced induction engines run at 11.5 a/f under pressure/boost/wide open throttle. GM sets the a/f ratio very rich to allow the end user to run 87 octane and load the vehicle with weight exceeding the manufacturers load rating.
Increase timing throughout the RPM range and increase throttle response. This is the process that increases torque and horsepower. GM must run conservative tables to ensure every vehicle can operate properly on 87 octane.
We modify the GM driving shift patterns to make the truck feel more responsive and shift into the correct gear at the right time. We can also increase and decrease the shift firmness.
Torque management is defined by GM as; the ability to lower torque output to the wheels. Which means that when you want the full potential of your truck to lay down the power, GM pulls timing to reduce power. The effects of TM are hesitations between shifts, a short pause off the line, and reduced power when the pedal is pushed to the floor. We are able to remove all or a percentage of TM.
We can also remove the speed limiter, adjust for tire size and gear ratio, and remove any emissions devices not being used (ex: rear O2’s, catalytic converters, egr, etc.)
All PCM's sent out are flashed with GM's latest calibration then tuned specifically for your vehicle!
Please keep in mind that all PCM/ECM/TCM's are used. They are core returns or have been purchased from salvage yards. All performance programmed PCM/ECM/TCM's are guaranteed to be free of physical and/or programming defects.
Feel the difference a Performance Tune with increased HP/TQ, firmer and higher shift points, and better drivability will give your vehicle.
