Terms and Conditions

Thank you for purchasing a Nelson Performance custom performance tune/retune. Please be sure to read all the attached information including Terms and Conditions for exclusions and limitations of this sale, helpful tips, and forced induction notice. To protect your vehicle and the integrity of the performance tune all PCM’s are locked. PCM’s can be unlocked at no charge; however stock parameters will be loaded on to PCM and the customer is responsible for any shipping charges. Nelson Performance does not send out unlocked performance tunes. No exception!
Why do we lock our PCM’s?  If for any reason you decide to change tuners or take tuning on yourself we do not want to be involved if any issues arise.  Locking the pcm allows us to be notified when you or another tuner wants to change parameters.  This keep us from being liable if any issue happens to your vehicle.

FYI:  We offer remote tuning and email tuning for hundreds of customers.  If you ever decide you want to purchase hptuners from us we will be glad to provide tuning support for your vehicle.

How to and Helpful Tips:

– Disconnect the negative battery terminal with a 5/16 wrench before removing the PCM. PCM’s are very sensitive to static discharge, be extremely careful and be sure the battery is disconnected.

– The PCM on 99+ Trucks is located under the hood on the driver side, next to and below the battery.

– Remove the PCM cover by pulling outward on the cover to clear the holding tabs. Use a 7mm socket and ratchet to remove the PCM connector bolts. Slide the PCM out of its plastic case.

– Pass-key relearn procedure. If your truck/car doesn’t start, perform the procedure. If you need a copy of the procedure please email info@nelsonperformance.com or visit http://www.nelsonperformance.com/passkey.htm.

– Crankshaft relearn may need to be performed. A common trouble code is P1336 (Cam/crank sensor position relearn) but the code can be different depending on your vehicle. The procedure requires the use of a TechII/Genisys or similar handheld unit capable of doing the relearn.

– A no-start can occur because the idle has not been learned yet. If your idle is stumbling and your car is having a hard time idling. An idle relearn is necessary. Read the following information carefully after installing the PCM for a quick relearn procedure. To fix–simply start the vehicle with 10-15% throttle. Allow to idle. When the idle is stable, put the vehicle in gear with the brake applied. Allow for the idle to stabilize for 20-30 seconds. Return to park. Shut off and re-start to see if the idle is now stable.

– When tuning for a high-performance cam, the idle relearn can take several cycles to completely fix itself. Driving the vehicle several miles in stop and go conditions will also help.

– SES or error codes: in order to read the error code you must obtain a scan tool. Your local auto store may provide this service for free. In the event your vehicle does have a SES code, please call us immediately 210-626-0278 or send an email to info@nelsonperformance.com.

ATTENTION: Forced Induction and N2O Vehicles.

– Note: Vehicles with superchargers, turbochargers and nitrous need to be scanned to ensure all sensors and electronics are reading correctly and are in working order.

– Our tunes are designed to optimize a/f ratio and timing to ensure your vehicle will run properly. However, there are many variables that can cause problems. The tune cannot correct for weak and insufficient fuel pumps or injectors, a dirty filter or other mechanical problems.

– To be sure everything is in working order, be sure to install a boost and a/f ratio gauge.

– Some vehicles cannot supply enough fuel when charged. If this is the case, larger fuel injectors and a high performance fuel pump must be installed.

Do not run the car at wide open throttle without monitoring the AIR/FUEL RATIO!!!!
